The objective of this project was to make a product to make yourself or someone else happy. I decided to build a custom hanging hammock chair for my sister.
The project was awarded as one of the top three final projects at the DIY Design Expo. More information about the class and the expo can be found on the Carnegie Mellon website (click here).
The chair frame is made from heat bent PVC. Two 5' sections were filled with sand and bent to allow for a smooth curve to be achieved. The two sections are coupled at the sides. Approximately 700 feet of nylon rope, 1/4" and 3/8", was used to weave the chair back and seat. The chair is weatherproof, so it can be used in both indoor and outdoor environments, making it a nice accessory to an outdoor patio or a living room.
